Max MacVeety: drums (Crown City Rockers, Skins & Needles)

Don’t expect Headnodic’s music to fit neatly into any particular genre; but rather enjoy as a gorgeous fusion of psyhedelic jazz, hip hop, dance, roots, funk & soulful rock unfold note by note, track by track. The result is a trippy, fun sound scape that Oakland based musician/DJ/producer, Headnodic, is known for creating. One of the founding members of Bay Area hip hop outfit, Crown City Rockers and 1/3 of the indie hip hop trio, The Mighty Underdogs; Headnodic has brought his music to every corner of the planet. From collaborations with MF Doom, Damian Marley, DJ Shadow, The Jazz Mafia and more to recording and producing his own solo work, Headnodic’s
talents are seemingly limitless.
On this night, we gather to celebrate the release of his fourth full length album, “The Iguana”, marking his debut with Rope A Dope Records. It’s a sonic gift generated by years of crate-digging and the oh-so-talented cast of musicians featured. Think what would happen if Jaco Pastorius, Thievery Corporation, Carlos Santana & The Roots could have a musical love child and you’ll be one step closer to characterizing Headnodic’s versatile sound.
SKINS AND NEEDLES (opens)
Skins & Needles is a duo made up of Dj Zeph (Om Records, Oakland Faders) and Max MacVeety (drummer for Crown City Rockers). Both staples in the Bay Area Hip-Hop scene, this duo joins forces to bring a club-party vibe with the use of live drums, breaks, scratching + mixing that keeps the dance floor moving. With live drums and Dj Zeph’s musicality, Skins & Needles catches the attention of musicians, producers, and Hip-Hop heads as well as people just wanting to party and dance.
Skins & Needles have been on a constant grind playing at many SF Bay Area clubs, sharing the stage with artists such as Mos Def, Travis Barker and Mix Master Mike, Talib Kweli, The Breakestra, Karl Denson, and The Coup. Skins & Needles also headlined their own tour supporting the release of their mix CD “Back Beat Symphony”. They have also played at Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, Sundance Film Festival 2011 Park City, Utah, and toured as support and backing band for Lyrics Born on his “As U Were 2011 World Tour”.
