"Cirque Noir takes burlesque upscale!"- sf chronicle
Burlesque troupes have enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in recent years, vamping old-style dance reviews into something even bawdier and gaudier. Now San Francisco dance company Cirque Noir is adding a twist - anti-gravity.
Cirque Noir with its new aerial burlesque show has its audiences spellbound in bliss. Sure, there's Cirque du Soleil, but the Canadian circus has never been as blatant or offered its audience such an intimate vantage point: Guests at Cirque Noir are invited to stand or sit on the dance floor during the performance, wear provided masquerade attire, mingle with the master of ceremonies and, maybe, get tapped by a performer for a slow dance.
"It's more like a San Francisco old-school happening," says Alayna Stroud, dancer and creative director of Cirque Noir. "You get to come and not just be a spectator."
It’s an altogether amazing spectacle that’s quite simply an all-out raucous festivity for the senses. What a party! |
