*LA GENTE & THE SESHEN*
La Gente is a Bay Area based international recording group led by singer-songwriter Rafael Bustamante Sarria. The group has created their own unique multilingual blend of Reggae, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Rock, and World Music. They perform a high energy dance party and have cultivated a large, loyal and diverse following. They have independently released three studio albums, numerous live recordings, two DVD's and are currently in production to simultaneously release their fourth studio album and Hip-Hop/Reggae Mixtape collaborating with a variety of international recording artists. La Gente are also resident artists at The Red Poppy Art House and are one of the driving forces behind the MAPP (Mission Arts and Performance Project)
La Gente was founded in 2002, since then They have performed numerous festivals, universities, radio stations, museums, art galleries and major venues all over the US. For example: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Austin, and New York. La Gente has also performed internationally in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Nicaragua, England, Italy, France, and Spain. Their notoriety and showmanship had found them sharing the stage with other recognized recording artists as George Clinton and The P-Funk All Stars, E-40, The Digital Underground, Coolio, Pato Banton, Lyrics Born, Rupa & The April Fishes, Meklit Hadero, Pete Escovedo and Hyro-Glyphics.
The Seshen is a 7-piece Bay Area-based band whose songs mix live and electronic elements. Their music utilizes electronic textures to suggest complex emotions and vivid imagery but also to blur the distinction between the abstract and the familiar. The Seshen takes influences from electronic music, hip-hop, pop, R&B, dub, and indie rock to create beat-driven compositions with a strong emotional core. The band consists of bassist/producer Aki Ehara, drummer Chris Thalmann, keyboardist Mahesh Rao, percussionist Mirza Kopelman and synchronizer/sampler Kumar Butler, who provide the sonic backdrop for vocalists Lalin St. Juste and Akasha Orr.
