MORE about *HONEY ISLAND SWAMP BAND*...

Great music begins with great songs, and great songs are what the Honey Island Swamp Band is all about.
The band came together after Aaron Wilkinson (acoustic guitar, mandolin, vocals) and Chris Mule(electric guitar, vocals) were marooned in San Francisco after the levee breaches following Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, and had a chance encounter with fellow New Orleans evacuees Sam Price (bass, vocals) and Garland Paul (drums, vocals) at San Francisco's Boom Boom Room. They'd all worked together in New Orleans bands for years, but with no prospects of getting home any time soon, they figured they'd better cook up something new, and quick!

A few days later they had put together a song list, landed a recurring weekly gig at the Boom Boom Room courtesy of club owner Alex Andreas, and settled in to share a little taste of Southern culture with their new West coast neighbors. Their 7-song eponymous debut was recorded in 2006 at famed studio The Plant in Sausalito, CA, after sound engineer Robert Gatley saw HISB live at one of the weekly gigs and offered the band an opportunity to record at the studio. The tunes and talent were just pouring out of these guys, Gatley says. I'd been missing that funky bayou sound and Honey Island had the club jumping. I couldn't wait to get them on tape.
The resulting EP was received so well that all the musicians decided to continue the band upon moving back to New Orleans in early 2007.

Honey Island Swamp Band's sound has been described as "Americana on the Bayou", with timeless songs from Wilkinson and Mule, highlighted by Mule's searing guitar, Wilkinson's sure-handed mandolin, and 4-part vocal harmonies, all anchored by the powerful groove of Price & Paul's Louisiana stomp rhythm section. Their music draws from a variety of influences in the world of roots music, including artists such as Lowell George & Little Feat, Jimmy Reed, Taj Mahal, Earl King, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, and New Orleans own Night Tripper, the legendary Dr. John, placing the band perfectly among Louisiana contemporaries such as Anders Osborne, Tab Benoit, and Eric Lindell (with whom Mule and Wilkinson toured for several years).

In April 2009, the band released its first full-length album "Wishing Well" produced by Tom Drummond of Better Than Ezra. Throughout the rest of 2009, the band toured relentlessly in support of Wishing Well, on the strength of such songs as "Natural Born Fool", "Till the Money's Gone", and the album's title track. In January 2010, Wishing Well was named 2009's Best Blues Album at OffBeat Magazine's BEST OF THE BEAT Awards, where the band was also honored as Best Emerging Artist.

The newest offering from HISB "Good To You" was released in April 2010, and has quickly become a staple of most DJs on the Crescent City's legendary radio station WWOZ, as well as on Sirius/XM satellite radio's Bluesville and traditional stations from coast-to-coast. Featuring the southern strut of songs such as "Be Good", "300 Pounds" and the album's first single "Chocolate Cake", Good To You illuminates the mix of country-inflected rock and New Orleans funky blues that makes Honey Island Swamp Band's music so familiar and unique at the same time.

*HOWELLDEVINE*

HowellDevine was formed back in the Summer of 2011 when Joshua Howell and Pete Devine met each other in SF. They both realized that they had a similar love of the blues, and instantly bonded musically! Joshua, who had just spent the previous three years in Thailand, was freshly dealing with the "Back to America Blues", and Pete had just climbed out from the pits of hell to begin the healing process in his new life after a month long vacation in a sunny So. Cal rehab. Happily, they played together around SF for several months as a duo. Then in the fall, they recruited upright bassist Sam Rocha and recorded a CD titled 'Delta Grooves" as a trio. Soon, Sam went off to war to a (not so) foreign land. So enter current upright bassist Joe Kyle Jr. (or sometimes bassist Safa Shokrai or Kenan O'Brian when Joe ain't there) Since then, HowellDevine has been providing Northern California and The Bay Area with the kind of blues that makes folks whoop, holler and hump.....well, dance!
Just recently Elwood's (Dan Akroyd) nationally syndicated radio show "The Blues Mobile" has chosen a tune from the Delta Grooves record to be Elwood's "Blues Breaker Pick of the Week!" Not too shabby! Anyways, please stay tuned...There will be much MORE TO COME! And be sure to visit us on our website at www.howelldevine.com
