“Besides serving as HERBIE HANCOCK’s backing band in his Funk years, the HEADHUNTERS (Mike, Paul Jackson, Bennie Maupin, Bill Summers, and Blackbyrd McKnight), MIKE CLARK created some of the best jazz-funk of the early seventies, including the seminal 'Survival of the Fittest' album.”
"REUBEN WILSON a.k.a. ‘The Godfather of Acid-Jazz’… with "On Broadway", the first in a string of albums for Blue Note Records. With these recordings Wilson revealed a command of funk that helped redefine the soul jazz movement created by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff and Richard "Groove" Holmes
...Reuben Wilson was one of many soul-jazz organists to emerge in the late '60s, but he was one of only a handful of new organists from that era to be signed to Blue Note. By that point in the label's history, most of their artists were concentrating on accessible soul-jazz, and while he occasionally strayed outside of the conventions of the genre, Wilson more or less followed their rule. Between 1968 and 1971, he recorded five sessions for the label. None of his records received much acknowledgment at the time, but they were later rediscovered by a new generation of soul-jazz fans, becoming collector's items within acid jazz and soul-jazz revivalist circles."
Danny Draher, New York Blues & Jazz Society's Best Band Winner 2004 - is a guitarist, singer, musical director, consultant and producer. Born in Indianapolis, he heard the fascinating sounds of Wes Montgomery, James Brown, Ray Charles, and Elvis. He started playing piano and bass at a young age, then switched to the guitar and soon moved to Chicago. By age fourteen, Danny was performing at parties with local bands and began his professional life as a guitarist with Otis Rush and Buddy Guy at the Checkerboard Lounge. He recorded his first album with the Bob Reidy Band on Flying Fish Records at the legendary Chess Studios. He left Chicago and toured nationally with many popular,'top 40', rock, rhythm and blues bands."
'Linda Tillery...
After spending much of the Seventies as a session drummer on various projects, Linda returned to the studio in 1978 for her second album 'Linda Tillery' for the Olivia Record label. Linda has featured on various television commercials over the years. By 1992, Linda had re-connected with her black roots and formed the Cultural Heritage Choir. The group includes Linda and vocalists Rhonda Benin, Elouise Burrell, Melanie DeMore, and Emma Jean Foster-Fiege. Two albums followed entitled 'Good Time A Good Time' in 1995 and 'Front Porch Music' in 1997. It will be, however, the 'Secrets' album that soul purists will regard as Linda's finest moment to date."
"She has appeared on over 50 recordings by Santana, Boz Scaggs, Kenny Loggins, Sheila E., Holly Near, Andy Narrell, Mary Watkins, John Santos, Keith Terry, Turtle Island String Quartet, Oleta Adams, Huey Lewis & the News, Keola Beamer, Linda Ronstadt and others."
